Julz again had no idea where we were going but I did tell her we got to cross the Golden GateBridge! JIt was my first time actually driving over the bridge as I’ve only been over it a couple times before!Unfortunately, the fog was already starting to roll in and we didn’t have a lot of time otherwise we’d miss our “final” stop which wouldn’t wait for us…they’d leave whether we were there for the tour or not! LOL.
There was a nice restaurant I had been once before in Sausalito and it was at night.
The waiter said they had breathtaking views during the day of AngelIsland, Tiburon, and back into San Francisco. The restaurant is called The Spinnaker and it was a higher end seafood restaurant but I made sure they had beef and chicken for our non-seafood friend Julz! First, she doesn’t drink wine AND she doesn’t like seafood and/or sushi….amazed we are friends, huh?
We enjoyed a nice lunch/dinner overlooking all of SF and it was time to head back over the Golden Gate into the City.Coming back was sweet as it dropped us off right near Fisherman’s Wharf and Ghiradelli Square.
The Birthday Girl!
Instead of a birthday cake, I had planned to stop at our now favorite cupcake spot (thanks JillianJ) to get Julz a birthday cupcake! Well, I had forgotten they closed at and there was no way we were going to be done with our last stop by that time!We rushed around and drove around the block what seemed like 10 times, thinking we’d passed over spots but they were construction zone ones.Uuuuugh.And then, PARKING KARMA!! We pulled around one more time and someone was pulling out directly across the street from Ghiradelli Square! OMG!We weren’t sure whether it was construction zone or not too but we figured nothing would happen in the 10 minutes we were inside buying cupcakes! :D
Of course, I should remember from when we visited Kara’s with David, Sal, and Jillian that there is a $10 minimum purchase for credit/debit.Hmmm, well, I was buying two cupcakes and Julz “said” she only wanted one.
CHeck out the last three Chocolate Velvets Jillian
Total was $9.50 and yes, the lady made me buy something else!! Oh darn, Julz had to get TWO cupcakes for her Bday! HA HA HA.
We ran back to the car and off to lord knows where as far as Julz was concerned. I was starting to panic a little as I saw the more clouds rolling in and now the wind and cold was catching up.DRAT!Julz didn’t know but we were taking a sunset cruise around Alcatraz, AngelIsland, and under the Golden GateBridge.I was excited as I had never done this before and I know Julz hadn’t.
One of our friends at Pier 39
I remember that she has the propensity to get seasick as do I sometimes, so I opted to book on a catamaran so it would be more stable than a regular sailboat.
Because we were short on time, we parked in the expensive lot at Pier 39 (yes folks, $21 to park) so we could run right across the street. We got across and found our pier which ironically was the same area we hung out with Jillian the last time having our deep conversation watching the sea lions!Unfortunately today was much colder and windier than the day we stayed there having deep girl talk!
I was getting really bummed as the beautiful partly cloudy day promised was rapidly looking like storm central.I told Julz I was upset as the forecast and she says, “Uh, this is partly cloudy for San Francisco”.HA HA.
Me and Julz warming up!
I finally told Julz what we were doing and I was worried we were going to freeze our tushies off out there but come to find out, there is a big inside area with large windows.SWEET.Don’t have to freeze and as long as Julz can see out, no worries about shark chum!! Hee Hee.
We managed to maneuver ourselves so we were like the 2nd group of people on the boat and had our pick of seats. We got a table that was close to the door and had a great big window.Ironically, we found ourselves going outside quite a bit to take pics and brave the wind so we could see the sights.
Our first stop was around Alcatraz which was amazing. I have not been since I was a kid and I tried to get tickets for the night tour for Julz birthday but they sell out months in advance. We got pretty close and took some photos of course…it was definitely a much more eerie view from the backside than what you see from within San Francisco.
Finally a bit of a sunset! LOL
The views back into the Bay were breathtaking as we had a full view of San Francisco and the BayBridge.
Next we continued on towards AngelIsland and Sausalito. It was so weird because if you looked left towards the Golden Gate it was dark and dreary but to the right was gorgeous and sunny.
Golden Gate Bridge
We kept trying to get pics of ourselves with the GG Bridge in the back but it was quite a task with the wind blowing • at least Julz had a hood • not me! So my short hair was whipping all in my face and stinging…ouch! But who cares, the view was worth it!There were some pretty funny people on the cruise, especially the young couple from San Jose • he soooo should’ve been a TravBuddy! He took more photos than we did and a bunch of himself in goofy positions which was hysterical. He was jumping on the netted area on deck and then laying down on it and his girlfriend kept telling him to stop but I thought it was rather entertaining. At least his pics will be memorable!LOL.
With the cruise came two drinks for each of us…..Julz opted for the logical choice to warm her up (hot chocolate) and me, well, not bypassing any opportunities for red wine…sorry!Red wine warms you up too!!They had a small buffet offering of like cheeses, fruit, crackers, and dips.We munched a little, drank a little and it was back up top for the GG Bridge.
Good grief it was cold and windy now but it was so incredible to go underneath it • we had the worst time again trying to get our pic with the bridge and it was hysterical, “no turn it this way, no wait that way, oh wait up here” and then poof, we were already under it!I did manage to get some good shots of the bridge itself.Once we finished that it was time to rush back downstairs for round 2 of the drinks. They had brought out more grapes and cheese by this time so we munched a little and chatted about the day, and the fact both of our cameras were dying.Darn batteries!I think I need to go into quality testing for digital camera batteries as most of them cannot stand the “TB test” it appears.
By the time we got back to the pier, I think I had defrosted enough where I could feel my fingers again! HA HA.We were both exhausted by this point and opted to call it a night. I still had to drive her back to San Jose and then head all the way back to Sacramento that night.
Hee Hee...sorry Julz
Uuuuuugh. We got to her apartment and had our birthday cupcakes.I took a couple pics of her Beta fish who I can’t remember their names now…..darn it!And it was time for me to begin my drive back….what a wonderful day we had…can’t wait to do it again! We were missing our 3rd BAB, Jillian, but I know she was with us in spirit. (Yeah right, she was partying it up in Vegas…she didn’t even give us a second thought I am sure…ha ha).
Hope Julz enjoyed her birthday as much as I did!! Just goes to show that the friends we make on TB (TBFs) and eventually become your real life friends (RLFs) and I am so happy TB brought Julz and I together • she’s a great friend and I am lucky to have her in my life!!
