recovery in playa

we pretty much did what we set out to do in isla mujeres, make up for a lack of socialising over the previous 2 weeks. needless to say, it came at significant (health) expense. our last night was quite eventful (insert story here), and we decided that we were escaping the island. so we collected everyone we could (7 in total!) and dragged them back to mainland and sanity and headed on to playa del carmen.
Playa was a contrast to the friendly vibe, received from the locals after a big night. More touristy than isla mujeres, but a fair few notches below cancun. It had the starbucks, burger king poised directly opposite the great beaches. However, it wasn´t the tourist attractions or nice beaches we were there for.
We were there to recover. We somehow managed to score a nice aircondition (impossible to detox without AC) suite complete with TV & clean sheets! We were all at some level against the ´tourist´scene complete with hawkers and pushy restaurant hosts, but it did come with some convenience. Playa had a wal mart... which meant one thing. a half decent grocery store.
We enjoyed 2 solid days of nothing but homecooked meals, and movies, and frequent showers just to make us feel better about ourselves. Bliss.
We did walk around the streets a few times, but concluded that it wasnt really our scene. so opted to head south to Tulum, with little research. The extent of our knowledge was the fact that there was ruins on the ocean.
