local kids made this for us... out of a reed.
Jumpin on the bus in San Juan headed for Rivas, we managed to jump on the bus taking the long way around.... turning a 45 min journey into a 2hr+ mission thru the coastal backroads...but we did enjoy the ride.... as per usual....

Back in rivas, we faced the usual army of locals all trying to offer you a ride in their cab (or their mates), to whichever destination you desire.... I'm sure they'd offer you a ride to Australia if you asked. Not accepting their propositions, we opted to wait for the a bus... an interesting wait... where we were hassled by the usual assortment of crazy's, vendors and taxi drivers.

It was here that I had to say goodbye to Broomy for a little while. He was to meet up with a girl back up in Granada. And I was headed to the beach with some other friends.
changing tyres...

We ended up getting the bus & sat on our bags...this time coz the bus was that full there was no where else to sit! AFter a flat tyre & 3 hours we arrived in a town called Las SAlinas, looking for a 'red pickup' that a friendly lady on the bus told us would take us to Popoyo beach...

It did & we checked into some hotel at Popoyo in the dark.

AFter an ok nights sleep, i woke with a somewhat ambitious expectation of a nice beach, good waves & sunshine similar to home. Once again, I was dissapointed. I should've known it, it is rainy season, and all parts of the world need sunshine AND rain to survive.

Popoyo area is a long stretch of of beah (complete with rubbish), divided by estuaries, a solid windswept swell & lush vegetation.... all wet (at this time)...

We had some wicked storms (lightning landing 100m from the hotel) & torrential rain, but we managed to keep the spirits alive with card games and riddles...

As a result of the storms we were temporarily flooded in, forcing me to wait until better weather to leave. (i'm still not sure if that was simply a ploy by the locals for us to stay longer and support their businesses)

fortunately, the skies opened up and we were treated with 3 days of sunshine, no, or offshore winds beatiful sunsets and good waves.... it did make my trip to nicaragua....
