We jumped in the car, and headed further north. We heard the drive up the coast was pretty spectacular, but had no idea it would be this spectacular. 60 miles of road was carved in the side of mountains that fell directly into the ocean. Wow. There was cove after cove... all of which were just as spectacular as the one before. In the beginning we stopped at every 'vista' point... but eventually realised we weren't going to make it to San Fran if we stopped everytime there was an amazing view.
We made it to San Fran about 4pm. Found our hostel, and was a little shocked when the woman in our dorm proceeded to talk and talk and talk... mainly to Sam who was stuck in conversation with her. After evading her, we then set out on the Cable Car down to Fisherman's wharf... was ok, a bit of a tourist trap, but we still enjoyed the mandatory clam chowder and a beer. We headed back up toward Union square where we were staying and stopped off on the way for another beer. I guess we got the full San Francisco experience when the 81 year old man sitting next to us at the bar offered to show us his 'paintings' - all of nude men.
anyway, they left early that morning, so we woke up and rented some bikes, met a Kiwi Guy staying in our hostel and rode around town.... After crossing the bridge, we decided to go check out free day at the zoo... we didin't quite realise what we were in for.... the zoo was a long long way. Needless to say we were disappointed when we finally reached the zoo and were told it was shut for the day. So we started the long journey back to base camp. Got incredible lost but made it in the end..... 60km's wirth of riding on a crap rental bike in hilly San Fran.
Completed the day with some Mexican and a couple of good and not so good beers down in Mission with our new Kiwi Mate.
....next up.... Yosemite....
