Denmark
I think Denmark is a Diamond in the Rough.
When people travel, they wish to see masterpieces, monuments, bounty beaches, rain-forests and thing like that. I live here and I'm gonna tell you straight out: You wont find that in Denmark!
With Denmark I think it can be hard to see at first, what makes it special.
The kingdom of Denmark It is the southernmost of the nordic countries. Also the country consists of a large peninsula called jutland and many islands, most notably is Zealand and funen as well as hundreds of minor islands.
Denmark has four seasons: summer, spring, winter and fall - ALL very different, and special in their own way. Only about 3 weeks of the whole year is really Summer warm, but in those weeks, there is not a better place on earth, Copenhagen is so nice and there is 100000 things to do, just going to the parks is one of my favorites in summer. People (expecially the younger generation) gather and drink beer, plays ball, get a tan and socialize with each other etc. SO NICE ! =) Nyhavn is also great for that, the small canal street is FILLED with people just enjoying each other, the sun, the water and meeting new people. Also there are no hills denmark it's pretty much FLAT as a pancake - so if you take a small trip out to see the country fields, you can see very far !! and in summer they are in the most amazing colors.
squares of yellow, red, green, purple etc. As many things in Denmark this only lasts a short while unfortunately.
Winter in Denmark is like that as well, only about a month is really winter cold! and there aren't thick snow every year, but those who experience it, knows how special it is, go away from Copenhagen (tourists tend to camp there, which is a shame). Se the snow covered fields, the small OLD farmhouses with hay roof covered in snow, almost looks like a Christmas card. Or go to Tivoli (an amusement park in the middle of Copenhagen) not many foreigners know, but is also open in Christmas, and the whole park is covered in lights! A sight to remember ! also (no offense to Americans - it has it's charm too) but the Christmas decorations in Denmark are most places very pretty and elegant and not tacky like in America :S Also you can go to special "Christmas forests" and chop your tree down yourself!
Danish people (including me) is proud to say that Danish author Hans Christian Anderson is known beyond Denmark for his amazing fairy tales such as The little mermaid and the ugly duckling.
Also the place where he lived in Copenhagen is still there, and you can go see it! (YAY YOU!) He also has a statue in his honor, the little mermaid, which many tourists come to see. She is very small and green, and she does not need to be bigger, in gold, or different in any other "extravagant" way !! She is special and beautiful in all her simplicity and is built to resemble a beautiful story, not to blow people away by size, material etc. - I get so annoyed with tourists expecting a gigantic Gold statue, and then when they see her, doesn't like her - she is beautiful In her own simple form god dammit !Copenhagen is also home to many other nice attractions, including Tivoli as i said before, Amalienborg Palace (home of the Danish monarchy), The Opera House, The Marble Church, the Round Tower and Nyhavn ( I told about it before, the in which H.C Anderson lived in.)
The second largest city in Denmark is called Århus and is an old Viking age city, it is one of the oldest cities in the country!! The largest cathedral in Denmark is also in Århus: it is also the second largest cathedral in all of Northern Europe !
For you more dirty souls out there ;D , Denmark was the first country to legalize pornography 1969 and has a FUN museum called "erotica", with history about porn and erotic.
And Denmark was also the first country in the world to grant gays a law so they could get married legally <3Last but not least International studies have shown that Denmark is the happiest country in the world. (MMMYYEES, we are ! haha) =)
Danish people are often hard to get to know in the beginning, but don't let that scare you off ! We just like our privacy, and most danish keep their distance and are very polite at first - but once you have broken through the facade you will most likely be met with, black humor, irony, and a lot of laughs etc =)
