A trip to Nemrut Mountain
May 28, 2008
Our 3rd day: The trip to Mount Nemrut
On our 3rd day we deceided to go to Adyaman and Mount Nemrut. Unfortunatelly either Fatih nor Deniz had time to join me and my Mum, so we went on our own...
We took the way towards Adyaman. Already driving along to Adyaman was really great cause there many places on that way that were so beautyfull and we had a short stop to enjoy the several places.
After Adyaman there were 2 possibilities to get to the Nemrut Mountain, a shorter one and a longer one through the "Milli" National Park. We deceided to take the longer one what was really not a good idea...
The first few kilometer were okay... but than the streets became worser and worser and at least there have been almost no streets but only a few stones high up the mountains. .
I am really used to drive Off-Road and I was also once driving in the Sahara.... but this was simply impossible.
After about 30km we had to give up!!! The car broke down a few times and it was just too dangerous with our car to get along that way...
We were really lucky that we found a place where I could turn back... turn around on a few meters and left besides us it went down the mountains a few hundred meters... nothing for people without strong nerves - haha ;-)
Note:
If you wanna reach Nemrut Mountain by the long way through the Milli Park, you REALLY need a 4 wheel car!
Everything else is just careless and dangereous!!!!
Nemrut Milli Park
The landscape in the park is really fantastic!!! Entrance is 5 Turkish Lire.

There are really many beautifull places, but as mentioned before - if you wanna take the long way through the park to get to Nemrut Mountain, you need more than a Opel Corsa! *lol* --> our rented car

Finally we reached Mount Nemrut and I was so happy as I thought before I would never get there that day.
On the mountain is a small camp and you can choose walking up to the top or going by donkey. I was choosing the donkey ;-))
As I reached the top it was just overwhelming.... all these figures! Can't describe that moment standing there in the middle of majestic mountains and these figures - and: there were no other people around than we - the place belonged only to us!
:-)
If you are interested in the histoy about Mount Nemrut this is really a great webpage: http://www.nemrud.nl/
All the team from the camp was really so lovely and helpfull and of course we had to drink lot of tea and talk....
BTW - they also guessed I am a turkish girl ;-))
In the evening we were arriving in Urfa again and met Deniz and his friend. We went out for dinner and had really a nice evening after a long day driving through the mountains. Unfortunatelly Fatih had no time this evening to join us.
