Said to be that only Rome has more fountains than Kansas City and one of these fountains is the JC Nichols Fountain in the Country Club Plaza; a big feat for this small big town in the Midwest. Not only are there fountains galore but tons of shopping in the Country Club Plaza. There are many attractions in KC but for Mark and me it was a short weekend getaway to visit the shopping district and a few tourist sights. We went to the Nelson-Aikens Museum which is free but have to pay $5 to park. The museum was ok, there were a few exhibits that were worth while, mostly the Asian, ancient Greece and Medieval displays.

An interesting reveal was the outdoor sculpture park with giant Shuttlecocks. I really don’t understand why they are the focal point but amusing to see. The park surrounds the entire complex that has various trails to stroll thru and enjoy art and the outdoors. We visited a jazz club call The Blue Room at 8th and Vine, a well know Jazz/Blues section of downtown KC, to sit back from hectic day of walking the plaza the Plaza to shop, exploring the fountains in the area and eating at the best place on the strip, the Cheesecake Factory. Yum! Sunday we walked around the Farmers Markets, which to my surprise was not as big as thought or a selection of foods and fruits; although, the spice variety was overwhelming with choices and aromatic perfume. After buying some mangos we headed back to the WWI museum where there was a tower that you could purchase for $4 to ride up 217 feet in an elevator with a few stairs (44) to get a fabulous view of downtown KC. I do plan on making back to KC in the future.
