I packed up my various accoutrements and headed for the ferry terminal. I wanted the 4pm ferry but missed it, but the 5pm still had spaces so I queued up and went to find a free wifi connection at the terminal building. It was super slow so I only managed to download a few emails before it was time to board.
Onboard I explored the various decks until I managed to get out above the stern. We drew away from Tsawwassen heading for Victoria on Vancouver island. My great friend G has, for my convenience, located his parents on Vancouver Island and offered me a contact there if I should be passing. I had arranged with his parents, the kind and generous K and M to stay the night at their house and travel on to Tofino in the morning.
After a superb steak dinner and a good nights sleep (first real bed in 5 weeks! I just melted into it) I headed on up the highway, stopping in at Coombs to see some goats on the roof of a cafe, passed the cathedral grove* and through some amazing scenery on my way to pacific rim provincial park. I'd checked the campground the night before and it was full apart from a few non-reservable sites. I decided to wing-it, which paid off as I turned up to find maybe 5 sites that hadn't been taken yet.
The beach at greenpoint campground is unbelievably beautiful, I wandered up onto the rocks and down past countless driftwood logs on comber beach next door. Hunger eventually got the better of me and I made my way back up the steep slope to the campsite for dinner.
* Cathedral Grove was super busy, so I'll catch it on the way back to Vancouver
Tomorrow: sea kayaking!
