First day - Miedzyrzecz
May 22, 2008
Kayaking is always fun... hm... maybe it's not THAT good when it's raining;)
I woke up very early :// cuz the start of todays rout was sheduled on 9.00 and i had still some 70km to go, but first service at my church since it's holyday:) then i had to borrow a towel at friends, cuz i relized that i've forgotten my own (as always! i'm starting to think that the towels don't like me that much as i do like them;) and there was no time to go back home). I should have gone to the petrol station the day before as well:// but it was still early and holyday, the traffic was ok (they all were sleeping - lucky them!;) I got exactly route description so i didn't get lost, cuz i was there for the first time. When i came to the camping they were almost ready to go. I made it on time!
We went with the cars to the place where the kayaks were waiting for us, the drivers went back and were taken by one big car of the kayaks-owner again to the river, so that we didn't have to worry about cars. The main group was waiting for drivers at the river. Then we started getting borred so u could listen: "hwo want's some chocolate?", "who want's a sandwich" and similar calling some food names (LOL).
When the whole group was there we got into the kayaks (some of us - and me as well - had our own kayaks only for ourselves so those lucky few could go much faster than the others).
We was going on the quite wide river (as for kayaking) so it was not hard and the water level was high - where there were usualy some fallen trees and u had to go under or over them getting off the kayak climbing over the fallen tree and getting in again - now we could just flow over them. Sometimes we got stuck on a fallen tree, but some fast moves forward and back and again (you know what i'm talking about here ;) helped to force the 'natural obstacle'. Then after some 10 km or so near the town of Miedyrzecz we saw a huge dam made of branches, limbs, sticks and all other plants material. It seemed to be save when going on it, and we tryed to climb on it and push our kayaks over but it was not that save, i fell into the dam, in the mud hahaha. I was the first who was trying to win with the dam. Dirty and wet but i managed it! hahaha. Some others did make it staying dry, but few fell into the water (like Pegazy - both of them haha), so that they were completely wet hahaah! Kasia lost her shoes in the mud! It was fun, it might look bad, but at the end it was just a big fun. And the day was not that cold so we got dry in no time at all:)
In Miedzyrzecz we made a stop for drink and eat something. Who wanted went to the pub or resto - some of us were chilling just at the river on the meadow. In the town there was an old castle, so we visited it and stayed for a beer and coffe at the castle-bar.
The second part of todays route were leading us home, which means our camping place:).
There were again some little problems with fallen trees or underwater roots but much bigger problem was that we ran out of non-alcohol drinks!! The only liquid (non counting river water;) that we had was beer, haha. But u may believe me or not - we got by! ;)
As we arrived - it was not later than 18 or so. We made a camp fire, one buddy asked "who wants something from the town, i'm gonna shopping" and we got our stuff for the evening. The evenings at the fire on the camping place look always the same: laugh, jokes, beer, scrimmings and again, laugh, jokes, beer... untill u get to tired and in some magic and unkown way u find ur tent ... or not;)
