Liverpool, day 1

Liverpool Travel Blog › entry 1 of 2 › view all entries

My first trip to Anfield. It was a slight 3-day detour from my Spain trip because I managed to get tickets to the last home game of the season. It's a big thing for me because I've been wanting to step into Anfield since I was eleven!

Liverpool, day 1

Our pride

I arrived at John Lennon Airport at around 10 in the morning on Saturday, May 3rd. took a bus to YHA and tried my luck with booking a room for 2 nights (Saturday and Sunday night). As expected, there were no vacancies for the first night. So I booked 2 beds for Sunday night because a really good friend of mine, Ben, will be joining me in Liverpool later in the day. Ben is an old friend from Singapore but he is currently doing an exchange programme for 6 months in France.

So that part settled, the question was- where do we sleep tonight? Thankfully, I did have some contacts in Liverpool. I know a couple of Singaporeans studying in the University of Liverpool. So I called one of them and told him the problem. They said it wasn't a problem and one of them, Alvin, gladly took us in for the night! That was really sweet of him.

We had to sleep in the living room but really, Ben and I could sleep anywhere as long as we've got a place!

So I headed to Alvin's place and hung around for a bit. In the afternoon, Alvin brought me to Anfield for a museum tour. We caught a few videos of the Istanbul game. It was so inspiring (i will never forget that day... who will??). Watching that video somewhat geared me up for the big day on Sunday. We took some photos, then headed to the LFC shop to purchase some souvenirs. I've never really been the shopaholic but god, i almost went crazy and wanted to buy everything. I kept having to remind myself that my bag has limited space and I've 4 more Spanish cities to go. I do not want to lug a heavy bag!

Not long after, Ben arrived at the shop. Gave him a hug because I've really missed my friend! Sometimes it feels good to see a familiar face on a foreign land. So we shopped for a bit more, after which we headed back to Alvin's place.

That night, we had dinner at Nando's in the city centre with some of Alvin's friends. They were a funny bunch and I had a great time over dinner. Later on, we headed back to Alvin's place and I crashed not long after, in the midst of the noise from the playstation (Boys will always be boys).
