Everyone from the team went home today, but Steve, Tina and I stayed a day later to wander the city. We had to switch hotels in the morning to the Asteria. Mark that. Not the famous AstOria, but the AstEria. The Astoria for you history buffs was the one that Adolf Hitler made reservations for a large dinner party for all his top brass in anticipation of an easy victory and takeover of the city. It was cool for us anyway since we really only needed a dumping ground for our stuff so we could shoot all day and then crash. Tina had a 0330 car to the airport and Steve and mine was not until later so we could make do.
We went out shooting various things especially some portraiture. We love to try and capture the local culture in the faces, so this was an early morning goal. People were not too warm to the camera so it was hard, but we got a few. After that we went back to reword the Church of Sacrificial, Slain, Gored, Slaughtered, Spilled Blood, better known as the Church of the Resurrection or Church of Spilled Blood. Tasty. Truly lovely architecture though. Got some souveniers from the backside market though.
We then walked down the prospect toward the Hermitage. After shooting the square and the Winter Palaces, we went inside and got some of the most amazing shots of the trip. The inside was a dream for HDR. Crazy statuary, chandeliers, floors, you name it. Hope you like.
