Algeria: Quad est bellum mirandum est or: What is beautiful has to be seen

My round trip to Algeria a few years ago was unforgettable.

I landed in Algiers, where it was very warm, it felt like a blanket around me.

Early in de mornig the journey of discovery began by bus.

I traveled with a group.

The first round went to Bou Saada what means “The happy city”

The ride went through the Tell-atlas, a fertile area, whith some vineyards.

The landscape was varied, fresh green areas, but also mountainous.
On the way to Bou-Saada  the environment changed.
The landscape was becoming drier and in the desert I saw the first oases.

After that I visited the ruins of the Moulin Ferrero.

I saw A waterfall in the desert which was really great!

The next day was the trip to Biskra.

There was a hotel with a swimming pool, very nice at that moment, because in some hotels there was no water!

I visited “Les balcons de Rhouffi”. (also called the bank Rhouffi, because of the many money changers, who were hitting motors)

I visited Batna, and the next day I went to Timgad, a magnificent Roman excavation.

Another excavation I saw was  Tiddis.

There I saw the remains of the ancient Roman city, also called  “The red city”, because of the color of the rocks.

Then to Constantine, the main town in eastern Algeria.

Constantine is known for the great  bridge “Sidi M'Cid”

In the middle of that bridge  you look over a deep ravine, the “Gorges du Rhummel”
The following excavation was Djemila, one of the most famous excavations from the Roman period.

Djemila was also really beautiful, because of its great Roman excavations.

Then to the coast, direction Bejaia.

There are the “Gorges de Kherrata”, in the abysses monkeys live in colonies.

This region is called small-Kabylie. I also went  to large-Kabylie and visited the village Beni Yenni, known for its silver jewelry.
Then again towards the coast and Algiers.

The last few years practically no more tourists go to Algeria.

Very unfortunate because Algeria has so much to offer.

I`m glad I visited Algeria when it was possible yet.
