A tour of Antwerp, a crazy car ride, and more fun :)
After a night of partying, a bunch of us woke up at Pieters place and were in search of food... Finding out that Pieter has a strict diet of beer, we decided it was best to head to Antwerp for some breakfast/lunch. We met the rest of the TB's in city center for some food, after enjoying some good conversation and bearing the ridiculous heat, Pieter was nice enough to give us a tour of his city, explain to us some of the history and myth behind the castles, statues, and streets...
First we started in the main square, Pieter told us the story of how the city got its name, According to folklore, and recreated by the statue in Grot Markt, the city got its name from a legend involving a mythical giant called Antigoon who would exact a toll from those crossing the river.
The giant was slain by a young hero named Brabo, who cut off the giant's hand and threw it into the Scheldt river. Some think the name Antwerpen comes from Dutch 'hand werpen' meaning hand & throw...Then there was the story about the water spirit of Lange Wapper, who myth tells it doesn't like drunkards and will meet you when you are pissed in Antwerp, I think he paid a visit to Dave the night before lol :) Pieter also showed us the narrowest street in Antwerp, and the building were the town's executioner lived... A great tour of the city, thank you Pieter!
Being that I will be missing Mothers Day in the US on sunday, I knew I had to buy some Belgian chocolates to bring back home, so me and Sylvie went to get some chocolate goodies.
.. Sylvie came to help me out, to show me where the best chocolate shops are but I realized that she really came there for the chocolate haha. After we got what we needed, me the gift, Sylvie the sugar rush, we wanted to get back to Pieters flat to change for dinner... Warren was nice enough to offer us a lift back, but upon arriving at the partking facility we were all wondering how are we going to fit 7 people in Warren's tiny car??? I know, we will just put 5 people in the back, thats easy!!!I had the pleasure of lying across 4 beautiful ladies in the back of the car, and after what seemed like forever, we made our way to Pieters flat... Everyone got into their best outfits, washed up and we were off to Amadeus Restaurant for dinner... Dinner was fantastic, all you can eat ribs for those that ordered, and a great start to our evening :) We ended up going back to "De Vuille Was" for more partying after and didn't disperse until early morning.
.. A bunch of us didn't have the intention of stopping we got a lift in Pieters limosine, and continued drinking, smoking, and joking in Pieters Flat afterwards... We even drunk dialed another TB all the way in California haha (thanks Warren)I had a bus to Paris to catch at 6:30 am so I was not going to sleep... The party and laughs lasted until the wee hours of the morning, I said my goodbyes to all the fine lads and was on my way to Paris. I want to thank Pieter for his hospitality, his knowledge of the Antwerp, and an overall great time! I got on the bus, and finally I could get some sleep :)
