Up in the hills
On my last full day in the city, the weather was fantastic. I started off with walking around the marina and grabbing some lunch in one of the cafes. I also wanted to take the cable car up into the Parc de Montjuic and take in some great views of the city, but unfortunately they weren't working. So instead I got the funicular from one of the stations. Basically it's a metro train that goes up the hill rather than under the city, and you just buy a single ticket as usual. Once I was at the top, I went into the Joan Miro museum, which houses a permanant exhibition of his work, and also pieces that were donated by other artists, and various temporary exhibitions. I found it quite interesting as I like modern art. Well, paintings anyway.
After the museum, I walked up the road to the Estadi Olimpic, and spent a bit of time overlooking the city, although the view over that side wasn't that good, so I walked back around to the terrace of the Palau Nacional & Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, where I got a couple of better shots.
From there I walked down onto the Place d'Espanya, and walked back into town along Gran Via, as I hadn't yet seen the Casa Battlo. When I got there, it was unfortunately covered with scaffolding so I couldnt really see all of it, which was a shame. However when I walked back down La Rambla, the market was open so I wandered in. I love looking at all the food stalls in markets, especially fish ones! That evening I didnt stay out too late as I had to be up the next day to leave the hostel and get to the airport. I went to the Mandragora bar, where the music was 70's rock and rather enjoyable. Only had a couple of drinks, although the JD+cokes in Spain I've noticed are larger than here - one will cost you about 7 euros, but they literally fill half the glass with JD, so technically it was equal to about 4 single ones, hehe.
The last day, I just walked around and relaxed in the marina a bit before heading to the airport. When I arrived back at Gatwick, I saw Iron Maiden's tour plane there, which was quite cool!
Barcelona is definitely a more easy going city than Madrid, and nicer really, and of course, more touristy. You may have noticed I have more to say about it aswell - I think in Madrid the alcohol obscured some of it - so in future travels I will try not to drink too much as it will most likely make me forget a few things that happened, and it's a bit of a shame if I want to go somewhere to appreciate it. And again, Barcelona is also full of hot women.
