Very affordable hostel in a well located area
If you think you will not spend too much time at your hotel and you only need a bed to sleep after a tiring visit day, then you can choose this hostel. The hostel is well located in a very quiet area and not too far from the downtown. If you are hungry and don't want to take a taxi, you can walk in the main street of Zamalek and you will find different choices of restaurant. For example, I forgot the name but there is a very good Italian restaurant just near the hostel. To go there, when you get out the hotel, take the right direction, then walk 10 metres and take the first street at the right, you will see the restaurant tables and chairs. Or you can also go and eat some good pizza at Maison Thomas, located at the main street of Zamalek (26 of July Street).
To talk back to the hotel, I will not advise it for family with children, the rooms were not very clean and the bathroom/toilet are not very good.

Tips : here is a good link to know more about the Zamalek area : http://wikitravel.org/en/Cairo/Zamalek

Serious guide company in Cairo
For your first time in Cairo, take a serious guide to show you all the "impossible to miss" attractions. Personnaly, we are very satisfied with the Marvelousegypt travel agency. We reserved a 4 days visits, they offered a customized programs for us. The best was that we were not part of a group, we had our own guide with our own driver (with a confortable, air conditioned car) from our arrival at Cairo to our departure to France.

PS : the price for all the 4 days service (airport pick up/drop off, french speaking guide, personal driver) was only 208 euros.

Oh and one thing to know, between visits or at the end, the guide have some instructions from his boss I think : It is to drive you to some stores (carpet stores, papyrus stores, perfume stores) in order to make you buy some goods. The travel agency or the guide will then take their commission later. My advise is just let the guide take you there but don't buy their goods, the prices are very very high and you will make better deal at Khan Khalili Bazar (if you need some advices for this bazar, contact me, because there is a side for tourist with high prices and a side for local at this bazar)
