Where Are We Going?
May 2, 2008
After a fabulous shrimp lunch, we jump into the car again and were zooming along the Kamehameha highway. In the small town of Lai'e, my cousin turned off the highway onto Anemoku Street. We were headed into the residential area on Naupaka Street I was like "Where are we going?", thinking we maybe stopping by Mar's friend's house. But as we neared the end of the street, the reason was clear...we were there for the views! Lai'e Point State Wayside provided us with a beautiful backdrop...Lai'e Bay to the north, off-shore islets and rock formations to the east, and lush mountains to the south. One off-shore islet, Kukuiho'olua a.k.a. Puka Rock, in particular was very interesting as it had a hole in it. Several teenage boys were actually cliff diving on south side of the "peninsula". I was tempted to cliff jump into the ocean too...unfortunately my better judgement got the best of me and I chickened out. Plus my cousin wasn't going to help me up and out of the ocean if I had jumped in...
