Romy's Kahuku Prawns and Shrimp

Aloha...Oahu..."The Gathering Place"! A fitting name since I am in town...uumm on the island...to visit family and friends, to attend my friend's wedding, and to meet up with local TravBuddies all within the span of YIKES...72 hours! Thank goodness I bought my flight tickets before the increase in gas and baggage surcharges!
It's Finger Licking Good!
Another must do when visiting Oahu, Hawaii is to eat at one of the shrimp trucks or shrimp shacks that line the highway along the North Shore. My favorite is Romy's Kahuku Prawns and Shrimp on Kamehameha Hwy (Hwy 83). The shack or hut is bright fire engine red so you can't miss it even if you are speeding down Kamehameha Hwy.

Freshness reigns supreme at Romy's...their shrimp and prawns are harvested daily from their OWN aquaculture farm (ponds) right behind the shack, then cooked to order.

When it was our turn to order, we wanted prawns but unfortunately, we would have to wait another hour for them to be harvested so we opted for the shrimp cooked in Butter & Garlic and in Sweet & Spicy each order costing $12...what a steal for fresh shrimp!

While waiting, we chatted with a retired couple from Arizona sitting at one of the many shaded picnic tables. They were directed to Romy's by their hotel concierge. They were so excited about eating fresh seafood in Hawaii.

Our orders came out served with heaping scoops of white rice and dipping sauces. Eating at Romy's is labor intensive and messy as you have to peel the shrimp or prawns but that is half the fun and yummy goodness! The butter & garlic was my favorite because the strong flavor of garlic balanced out the sweetness of the shrimp. The shrimp or prawns are served with the heads on and from my experience sucking on the shrimp heads was delicious too. The shrimp were finger licking good...KFC beware...you've got serious competition!

It probably was here. Most of the show is filmed on the island and the fuselage used to be located right on the side of the road in Mokuleia. TRE LOVE YOUR BLOG!
