Aloha...Oahu..."The Gathering Place"! A fitting name since I am in town...uumm on the island...to visit family and friends, to attend my friend's wedding, and to meet up with local TravBuddies all within the span of YIKES...72 hours! Thank goodness I bought my flight tickets before the increase in gas and baggage surcharges!
Sugar Coated Sinfulness!
Leonard's Bakery is the home of malasadas. Malasadas are traditional Portuguese doughnut-like sweet bread brought over to the Hawaiian Islands by immigrant sugar cane workers. Malasadas are typically eaten on Fat Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent. But at Leonard's Bakery, you can have one fresh out of the fryer almost anytime of day.

Malasadas are coated with granulated sugar and their interior is soft, airy, and chewy...YUM. In my opinion, they are best eaten when hot and fresh! At Leonard's, there are several variations on the malasadas such as cinnamon & sugar coating or cream or fruit fillings...but I like the plain sugared one the best.

Leonard's Bakery also has a display case featuring other pastries and baked goods. Plus they also make wedding cakes.

Leonard's can get pretty busy and the parking lot can get jammed but for the malasadas, they ARE worth the wait and hassle!
