El Yunque Rainforest
May 24, 2008
Today we had only planned one thing. Going to Fajardo to go Kayaking to the bio bay. Our reservations were for 6:30pm so we had the whole day to kill. Of course the first thing I did in the morning was updating you guys! ;)
We left San Juan after lunch at Camille's. It's kinda like Panera's in the States. Very yummy.
On our way to Fajardo. We passed through Rio Grande again, where we had gone to the emergency room only a week ago. Enid said we had plenty of time to make our appointment so she recommended to go to El Yunque. She knows me so well and knew that I secretly wanted to go back. So up we went through the narrow roads of the rain forest. We skipped El Portal, the visitor's center, as usual. We stopped at the beautiful La Coca Falls which are along the road. We parked the car at the parking lot and this is when we noticed that the window on my side of the car didn't wanna go up anymore! Great!! But not to worry now. It was pictures time. I walked ahead and snapped a few pictures of the fall. Enid and Alex gave up on fixing the window and followed. I gave the camera to Enid and started climbing up to the waterfall along the rocks. Now this is slippery business, but fortunately I brought my nifty water shoes. hehe Still, climbing up was pretty tricky and of course we didn't another accident. Alex decided to not even push his luck.
I had a really nice view from the top and Enid is creator of the pretty pictures you see posted with this blog. (Hugs and kisses for Enid!) I went back down and we got back in the car to go up a little further. The next stop is the Yokahu tower. The view from up there is beautiful. We had to make it brief though since they were about the lock it for the night. I had no idea that it was already 5pm. Wow, time to get going. Plus we had to make another stop to get the window looked at. You don't want an open window here. It rains a couple of times a day not for long but pretty heavy at times. Also leaving your window open while you're not at your car isn't a good idea anywhere.
We drove back down to Rio Grande and started looking for a repair place along the road to Fajardo. We found a Pep boys place and dropped off the car. Well, they took their sweet time to look at the car. So at 6:15pm we had to call the Kayaking Company to tell them we were running late. They said it was no problem and that we were only 15 minutes away.
The window was finally back up (NOT fixed) but we had to get going. At least they didn't charge Enid for the work, which was nice. Half of our group had met us here so we had been hanging out on the parking lot. haha At least we had time to change for the kayaking tour.
Getting to the tour place turned out another quest. There was crazy traffic to the beach and we were not moving for quite some time. But we finally got there and parked the car. To be continued in Fajardo blog....
