Antwerp Anarchy
Day 2, Saturday……
On Saturday the crew staying at Pieter’s began stirring around 10:30 or 11:00, and a bit later we were all hustling out the door ready to start a new day, and find some COFFEE! Haha!!! That was Sylvie and me’s first stop…the coffee shop! Then we joined up with the others on the terrace in front of one of the cafes. We also had some new TB arrivals on the scene: Marloes and Bart, J.C., Anna, Joost, and Biedjee. Am I forgetting anybody??? I actually remember well everyone who came for the meet-up…but things become somewhat amiss when I try to recall the chronological order in which they came. So if there are mistakes, please accept my apologies!!!
Throughout the day and early evening, the others who also showed were Ed, Alex (Robbo) ~ not to be confused with Alex-B, Lori,
After coffee and brunch, several of us joined Pieter for his personal tour service of
So, by now it is getting closer to our meet-up. Pieter, J.C., and I go back to the castle to change clothes and then we immediately head back to town. Our Meet-up site was the Amadeus Restaurant, specializing in Spare Ribs! When our group of 26 showed up, we were informed our tables were not ready, so we walked around the corner and found a place to sit and ordered drinks. After 45 minutes, we journeyed back to find they were ready for us!
We had several tables lined up to accompany us and…to my delight, several bottles of red wine adorning the tables!!! Hmmm…I knew we were at the right place. And then came the delicious ribs!!! WOW! All you can eat, too! Well, I had two slabs, but Pieter beat us all…although he didn’t break his own record, which I think was 8!!! Haha I am not sure how long we were there, certainly 2 or 3 hours, but I have nothing but great things to say about this place and, more importantly, about the company! It was like one big happy family!!! What a fantastic bunch of Travbuddies! And I won’t forget our frequent trips outside for smoke breaks with Alex, Sylvie, Ashish, Kim, and Robbo!
After Amadeus, things begin to get a little fuzzy for me…too much wine! Oh, I take that back…just the right amount of wine!! I do remember we started looking for club to visit and our first stop was at a club where Pieter worked as a bouncer.
But for some reason the club was not very busy on this night, and so we moved onto to the club we were at the previous night… “It's called in Dutch: De Vuile Was, translated as The Dirty Laundry. No kidding James, I am sober now while typing this, hahaha” To quote Alex, again!!
To be continued….
The club was wall to wall with people...and then throw in our mix of 26 people and, well...you can imagine!! We also had tables outside where many of us congregated to cool off from the sauna like temperatures inside. I would not do justice by trying to fill in all the details, just from the mere fact that I had plenty of wine on this night and the details are a jumble, at best. We probably left the club somewhere around 3 in the morning, but not before we had a huge hugging session outside the club for those who would not be seeing one another the next day.
The number of couchsurfers at Pieter's grew larger tonight. Those at Pieter's tonight: Pieter, Alex-b, Alex, Warren, Dave, Ashish, Sylvie, J.C., Jeff, and me. Once agian, the party was not over once we arrived back at the castle. In fact, it didn't conclude until the sun was up and the birds were singing. Jeff had to catch a train to Paris at like 6:30, so I hope he did get some sleep on the train. I would be remiss in failing to mention our phone call back to the states talking with Tiff (Tiffanybear24). Warren called her on his phone (I promised her I would make him call)...it's a wonder she could understand all of us! haha
