Being strapped into a 6 seater prop plane, smaller than most cars, definitely gets the adrenalin flowing. But making breakneck turns left and right in order that everyone gets a really good look at the ground is positively heart-attack inducing. There is, however, a good reason to get a look at the ground over the Nazca desert plains and that's the ancient Nazca lines.
50 to 200 metre high figures of a killer whale, an astronaut, monkey, birds, among countless others and large geometric patterns stretching miles into the distance hace been etched into the desert floor by the ancient Nazca civilization 2300 to 1400 years ago. The mystery becomes even more enthralling by the fact that they are only visible from the sky, and no one knows what purpose they served. Theories are a diverse as communicating with gods, landing strips for aliens, to pray for rains and prosperity, or the worlds largest star map, but it's still a mystery.
Wow! Sorry if we got a bit "Twilight Zone" on you there. In summation, it was way cool.
