Misty Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

After three and a half months in Central America the Odyssey continues! The basic plan is to travel south through Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia Argentina and Chile...then re-enter reality in California for 2 weeks before we have to go back home.

Misty Machu Picchu

We met up again from our adventures (Tristan´s being a little more strenuous) at the gorgeous mist shrouded ruins of Machu Picchu. Arlene was wondering what the hell she was thinking arriving at the entrance gate at 6am...being the first one through the gate...only to wade through a thick mist towards what she thought was the ruins. It wasn´t until she bumped into a herd of Llamas that she realised she had totally by-passed the whole site due to the mist.

Tristan's first view of Machu Picchu from the Inca Sun Gate at dawn was likewise blanketed, but the guide kept us moving passed the Sun Gate to a better and viewing point near the caretakers hut.

We found each other again (very romantic), and watched the mists unfold over the city. Quite breath-taking, even for some experienced ruin go-ers like us.

Unfortunately we were on separate guided tours so couldn't stay together for long.  After our tours finished we were able to finally meet and wander around the site.

We quickly realised that the infomation given to us on the tours were vastly different.  Arlene's Temple of the Sun was Tristan's Princes Quarters...  That building was an alter to make offerings to the Gods...No its a public bathing area....

We supposed that the stories that bring the ruins to life... regardless of if they're true or not.
