Zakynthos is located in the Ionian Sea.

This beautiful island has many nice old villages, beautiful beaches, clear seawater, steep cliffs and a beautiful flora and fauna.

On Zakynthos, I participated in several excursions among other things, a cruise and a visit to the city of Olympia, where the first Olympics took place.

I've enjoyed the broad beaches on the island. Between 20.00 pm and 07.00 pm was not allowed to come to these beaches, because here than the big turtles annually, the Caretta Caretta, to return to lay their eggs.

Zakynthos has an area of 410 square kilometres.

The length of the island is approximately 40 kilometres, 20 kilometres wide.

The total coastline length is about 123 kilometres.

Zakynthos has by a major earthquake hit with a total of 120 shocks, making 70% of the island was destroyed, including many Venetian houses and several Byzantine churches with their collections. The main church of Zakynthos the "Agios Dionisios" remained spared.

Also there are many grown grapes for making wine. In the vineyards Kalipado state's largest wine factory on the island

The city, also called Zakynthos, was destroyed by a big earthquake in 1953 to almost 90%. The rebuilding took place for old building plans, which the city was largely her old face, so Zakynthos is  a mixture of old, reconstructed and new custom.

I`ve seen the whole island and it was really worth a visit!
