LEFT MONTEPULCIANO AT ABOUT 0930 TO HEAD TO ROME. A VERY EASY DRIVE ON THE A1 AT 140 – 150KPH. AND STILL THE ITALIAN ROCKETS WERE FLASHING PAST US. TURNED OFF THE A1 TOO EARLY BUT STILL MANAGED AN ‘EASY’ APPROACH TO THE SAVOY HOTEL. BAGS AND ASHLEY AND KL DROPPED OFF AND THEN THE BOYS OFF TO PARK THE CAR. CARPARK IS ONLY ABOUT 4 MINUTE WALK AWAY BUT IT WAS A BIT OF A DRAMA GETTING THERE APPARENTLY. ASK CAM.
ANYHOO, QUICK REST IN ROOM AND THEN OUT FOR LUNCH AND VISIT TO THE SPAINISH STEPS AND TREVI FOUNTAIN. LUNCH WAS YUMMY PIZZA FOR THE BOYS AND A NOT TOO BAD TAGLIATELLE FOR KL. GRUMPY FACE WAITER THOUGH.
60BILLION PEOPLE AT BOTH THE SIGHTS TODAY. DIDN’T MAKE FOR A PLEASANT VISIT.

COULD HARDLY SEE THE STEPS FOR THE PEOPLE. I KNOW THIS SOUNDS LIKE
A BIT OF A MEL MOMENT BUT NONE OF US ARE REALLY THAT TAKEN WITH ROME YET.
BACK TO THE SAVOY FOR ARVO REST BEFORE HEADING OUT FOR DINNER AND REVISIT THE TREVI AND THE STEPS FOR THE NIGHT VIEWING. DINNER WAS MICROWAVE CANNELLONI FOR US ALL, TASTY ENOUGH BUT POOR NICKY HAD TO SEND HIS BACK TO GET RE-ZAPPED. FELT LIKE WE WERE BEING KICKED OUT AS THE COFFEE ARRIVED QUICKLY AND THE BILL WAS SENT OUT BEFORE COFFEE WAS FINISHED. OH WELL.
THE STEPS WERE A BIT LESS CROWDED UP THE TOP. GOT STUNG WITH THE FLOWER DUDES SO WHEN HE ASKED FOR ‘A LITTLE COIN’ I HANDED THE FLOWER BACK AND HE TOLD ME TO ‘GO AWAY’. LEARNT THE HARD WAY AGAIN TO JUST SAY NO, HIDE YOUR HANDS AND NOT LOOK THEM IN THE EYE. TREVI WAS MUCH LESS CROWDED SO WE EVEN MANAGED TO GET A FRONT ROW PHOTO OR 5.
Hello everyone. This is me in front of the Trevi Fountain
FINALLY GOT A SITE
PHOTO FOR ASHLEY WITH SOMETHING OTHER THAN HER PRAM IN THE BACKGROUND. GELATI ON THE WAY HOME, FIRST STOP THE RUDE BASTARD DIDN’T EVEN LOOK AT US AND THE RUDE FAMILY JUST STARTED ORDERING BEFORE WE HAD THE CHANCE. SO OUT WE GO, WALK 5 STEPS TO THE NEXT GELATERIA AND IT WAS EMPTY OF PEOPLE, HAD MORE FLAVOURS AND THE DUDE WAS REALLY NICE. DIDN’T WORRY ABOUT PAYING 4EURO PER CONE. YOU GET THREE HUGE SCOOPS THOUGH. JUST AS WE WERE TUCKING IN A GROUP OF AMERICANS REMARKED ON HOW HUGH THE GELATI WAS, EXPECTING ME NOT TO SPEAK ENGLISH, AS WHEN I REPLIED THAT THE WERE FABULOUS TOO, HE WAS A LITTLE TAKEN BACK. GOOD LAUGH THOUGH. HAD TO STOP WALKING SO WE COULD SCOFF OUR GELATI WITHOUT MAKING TOO MUCH MESS.
WE ALL OPTED FOR THE ‘DIET’ VERSION, THAT IS TO SAY, WITHOUT WHIPPED CREAM. ROME AT NIGHT SO FAR IS FILTHY AND RUBBISH IS EVERYWHERE. SAD.
BASICALLY OUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF ROME IS NOT OVERLY FAVOURABLE BUT HOPING THAT ANCIENT ROME WILL CHARM US A BIT MORE.
