Well all home safe and sound after a fantastic European holiday.
Flights - QANTAS and British Airways
Fantastic. Cabin crew and ground staff on all our flights were great and couldn't be more helpful.
We love France and want to go back as soon as possible. Another seven nights in Paris was still not enough. We will probably go back and spend a month in Paris alone next time. An apartment is the way to go in Paris as it gives you more room and some cooking facilities. If you want a break while driving around we recommend a week stop at Agris in Charente. The hosts Bebe and Michel Denoyer are great. Cheap and good accommodation. Book through www.holiday-rentals.co.uk and check property number 9827.
Places to See
Everything in Paris
Moet & Chandon Tour and Tasting
Mont St. Micheal, Brittany
Australian War Memorial
French Alps and too many more to mention.
Our stay in Saarburg in South West Germany was a highlight of the trip. Friendly people and a great little village. Try and stay above the Italian Ice Creamery for cheap good accommodation (La Casscata).
Great for a quick visit and look around. Oh, and the waffles with melted Beglium chocolate!!!
Pretty but not the town we stayed in overnight (Libramont, very industrial).
San Sebastion. Very very nice. Don't waste your money at the snobby Londres Hotel. We stayed at Hotel Europa and it was great. Highly recommend visting if you get the chance.
Beautiful. We would definately return to this area if we got time again. Montepulciano is a great village to visit and stay.
Savoy Hotel was very nice. Beware though when they say WIFI in all rooms doesn't mean it is included in the very high price per room that you pay. From memory it was another 22 Euro per day. Also wanted to charge 45 Euro per day for car parking. We parked at the carpark on the same street (Parcheggie Ludovisi)5 minutes walk away for only 18 Euro per day.
Rome in general was dirty and crowded. People not as friendly as France. Would suggest getting in, seeing what you need to and then getting out.
Northern Italy and Austria
Very nice. Would love to have the time to stay in this area longer. Especially for a winter season.
Fantastic! We want to go back for a month. So much to see and do but not enough time. Very expensive though. Prepare yourself for paying out money like there is no tmw. Stayed at the Caesar Hotel, Hyde Park, which was great but again WIFI in all rooms wasn't included in price. 15 odd pounds per day for WIFI access! No way. There is a little internet cafe just down the road anyway.
Travelling with Children
As you all know we travelled with our 14 year old and now 6 month old. We had no problems at all. Everyone was great. As soon as Ashley flashed her eyes and smile we had instant friends everywhere. She was breast fed for the whole trip and this made everything very easy. Our 14 year old had a great time. At times got bored with museums and stuff but if you vary what you see each day and get them to pick out a few things they want to see then this helps. Also make sure they get in the mood and use the local language and they will have a blast. Don't listen to anyone who says you are crazy to travel with an infant. Now a two year old might be a bit different!
We suggest that if you are staying anywhere longer than a week that you use furnished apartments. This gives you flexability with kitchens and living space. Works out cheaper in the end as well. Easily researched and booked through the internet.
Save the pennies for the next trip!!! Let's GO!!!
