Mount Vernon
I left DC later than planned, and went to Mount Vernon in Virginia.
I would visit the home of George Washington. I start off in the Ford Orientation Center, with a miniature display of the mansion, and a short intro film. Then I went to the mansion.
The line to the mansion was very long, and I end up waiting about 40 minutes. I figure I would do it right way, otherwise I would have put it off until it's too late. I would go through the Servants' Hall, where I would learn that photography of any kind, was not allowed in the mansion.
I went inside and walked through the home, as the line had to keep moving. I would see the various rooms, including the one where GW died. Afterwards, I went to see the Potomac River. First from the back of the mansion, then to the wharf, which was a short distance away.
I would also see the tombs, where George and his wife Martha were buried. Nearby was the Slaves Memorial and Burial Ground, in honor of the slaves that worked on Mt. Vernon. Then I went the slaves quarters, where they lived.
I got the museum, and it would take at least 2 hours to see. It was about the life of GW, from his start in the military for the British, which made him famous, up until his death and the legacy he would leave behind. Along the way, there are a few films to watch, which are worth for the history buff. One of the highlights is the dentures that GW wore. And no, they were not wooden, contrary to popular belief. As I woudl learn, this guy has major dental problems. Also, there was another part that had furniture that has been used in the White House over the years.
I left the museum, with the attraction closing up. I headed back to DC, and just relaxed for the rest of the night.
