Weekend in Puerto Rico Before Finals
April 12, 2008
Took a nice long weekend in Puerto Rico before the stress of finals set in. We stayed at the Normandie Hotel right next to the Caribe Hilton, and used the Hilton's beach area. They have a great hammock area and they had this cool inflatable iceberg looking thing in the water. I tried about 50 times to climb up it to no avail. I was about to give up when this little boy pulled himself from the water and up onto the iceberg with lightening speed, so I gave it one more try and made it ! I didnt' want to get off lol. This night we went out to the Wet an open air rooftop lounge in the Waterclub Hotel. The music was great and there were great views. We headed to the El San Juan Hotel after this. There was a bachelor party and all the guys were wearing pins with a picture of the bachelor throwing up (apparently from his 21st birthday lol). It was a fun and relaxing night, well needed after the crazy night out in Old San Juan the night before.

Affordable Boutique Hotel overlooking on the water
This was a great boutique hotel. It was very clean. The rooms were trendy and chic and the lobby was the same. There was also an art gallery show in the hotel while we are there, they apparently have lots of those types of events there. The only bad thing was that there was no real beach area, but the hotel is right next to the Caribe Hilton so we used their facilities. You have to be a guest at the Hilton to use it, but we went to have lunch at the restaurant and then just stayed in the outdoor beach area.
I loved this hotel !! It was very reasonable. The rooms were very cool, the lobby is so nice, great place to relax with a cup of coffee. The hotel was in the perfect spot, a short cab ride to Old San Juan in one direction and Isla Verde in th eother ( I personally like Old San Juan much better for restaurants and night life but there was one good place in Isla Verde on a rooftop overlooking the beach in the Water Club hotel)
The concierge was very helpful, and all of the staff nice. The pool is not so big, perfect size. There is no beach really in front of the hotel, but right next store, literally 100 feet is the Hilton and you can just walk through the open air lobby and use their beach which is what we did. That was nice as it is a bay and the water was so calm and clear, they even have hammocks on the beach !
