I’ll be spreading my wings and flying away on a journey of no return in a few months. So I’ve got a race against time to play music in every town in my area before moving on—and make a quick trip to Canada while it’s still in the neighbourhood…

Subtour 3: Civil War Towns. 0144 Antique Capital (USA 071—revisit)

After I got back from Canada, my back was better, so I threw myself into work again… now, a couple of weeks later, I’ve suddenly realized that time is almost out for me to parkbench this area before I leave here forever.  I still have a number of towns that have blessed me with fascinating memories that I feel a duty to go back and thank them with a parkbenching session.

So I’m going to try something desperate:  right after work at 2 in the morning, hit the road and parkbench pretty much around the clock until it’s time for me to head back to work two days later.

To start out, I’m going South, right into the heart of the Civil War region to revisit some really interesting places...

.

First is the city of Frederick--which I quickly realized is a famous for something else as well--it's gotta be the Antique capital of America!  I tell you, if you're into antiques--Frederick is the place to go.

..There are antique shops everywhere!

Frederick has done a decent job renewing its downtown area--including a nice little park/shopping area along the stream.  Even a lot of old, "working class" streets (with houses that probably weren't too attractive to begin with) have been nicely painted in a variety of bright colors.

...And of course, a Civil War museum and various markers showing street battles that took place around the city...

Try the Ethiopian Restaurant on Patrick and Market Street for something a little different (I took my wife there a couple years ago)...
