Quick Stop

Left Airlie Beach early today for another long drive.  Rockhampton was just a sleeping stop, we didn't look at anything much on the way.  We did stop at Mackay for a cuppa, and it looks like a nice place, certainly on our list for next time.  We had lunch at Sarina, which was a few kms off the highway.  Sea turtles lay their eggs on the beach here in the season.  Beach was a bit smelly, though, so didn't stay long!  Melissa seems to have caught chicken pox again - no immunity to the little blighters so they keep appearing whenever she's exposed.  Luckily the spots are not accompanied by feeling sick, but they're incredibly itchy so had to get some cream.
Our only other excitement for the trip was Noel getting breath-tested on the highway.  Random breath-testing is common in Australia.  You'll be driving along the road and see a couple of police on the road ahead who wave you to stop.  They bring out the little portable testing unit, into which you blow, and after which you can drive on if you're BAC is under 0.05.  We lived in a small country town before this trip and were tested quite often, it gave our local police something to do, but this is the first test we've had on this trip.  Noel had a zero read, of course, because we're not bloody idiots and don't drink and drive!!
Stayed at the YHA in Rockhampton - had a cabin with a bed and bathroom, you used the communal kitchen, but had the all-important air-conditioning.  The cabin had a little certificate in it stating that it was used in the athletes village at the Sydney Olympics.  The units were sold off after the Games, so it's interesting to see where they end up.
