I went to Mount Lemmon with my mother on December 30, 2007, with a desire to be surrounded by snow, which does not happen quite often in the southwestern state of Arizona.
Mount Lemmon was actually the tallest of the "sky islands" in the southeastern part of Arizona. The nearest major city is Tucson. It takes about an hour to drive from Tucson to the summit of Mount Lemmon. It is the tallest of the Santa Catalina Mountains that is north of Tucson.
The drive from foothill to the summit was actually quite a scenery.
At the summit, there were two major destinations, the lower one was Summerhaven.
The trip is worthwhile if you happen to live in Phoenix or Tucson, and you want to escape the summer heat or play with snow. The Ski Valley is relatively small compared to other ski resorts. There are also some hikes on the mountain too if you plan on hiking.
There are also some vistas that allow people to view some parts of Southern Arizona from 2000m above. Enough with the words, here are some pictures for you to enjoy.
