So I just got back from visiting the famous Great Pyramids in Giza and Saqqara. Both sites are extremely fascinating and awe-inspiring. Although I really enjoyed the Great Pyramids and I everyone who visits Cairo should visit them, I found the crowd absolutely overwhelming. My visit to the Saqqara, which has the world's oldest step-pyramid (4,500 years old), was much more enjoyable as not as many tourists go there.
A little history behind Saqqara: Although Memphis was the the capital of Ancient Egypt, Saqqara served as its necropolis. It remained an important complex for burials and cult ceremonies for more than 3,000 years, well into Roman times!!!

On my ride to Saqqara, we had lunch at a tourist trap but they offered pigeon and other Egyptian delicacies...it was delicious.

So far the trip has been going really well. The company I booked with has gone out of their way to make this a truly enjoyable and unforgettable trip thus far. Their website is  www.travelegypt.biz.

Now I'm off to go relax by the Grand Pyramids Hotel's swimming pool.
