The leaning Tower

We stayed in Pisa for just one night, since we heard from several sources that the only thing to see in Pisa was the tower. As it turns out...they were right. We did do a big bus tour to see the city, but the entire loop only took about 30 minutes and didn't show us a whole lot. The best part of the loop was a section through a national park, which drove past huge fields of sunflowers. The tower was very neat though, and we took the cheesy "holding the tower up" pictures that are expected. It was hard to find a place to take them, there were so many people doing the same picture!
Once we finished our photo op we headed to the train station, only to find out that there was a train strike on! The funny thing was, we didn't realize there was a strike until we had bought our tickets, waited an hour for the train, walked out to the platform...and realized there was nobody on it. The train station had been full of people, so we didn't even notice that no trains were actually leaving! We went to information and were told that the strike would be ending soon and we should be able to catch a train at 6:00, 2 hours from then. So we waited. About 5 minutes before we were supposed to board...that train was cancelled. The next one left another 2 hours later. Finally we made in on a train heading to the Cinque Terre, after 6 hours in a train station. We made it to Riomaggiore that night, and found the key that our hostel had left on the door for us. Success and bed at last!
