Two weeks back, I was sitting on the beach watching the sunset. Nice light, very relaxing, all as you would expect. However all the people walking towards me are looking very worried. They can't see the pretty sunset, I'm looking at - they see this scary storm brewing behind me. And it's coming in really fast, you can see the clouds building up - piling one on top of the other as you watch.
In fact the cloud seems to be coming faster than the rain that must follow... for about ten minutes we watch as the black clouds eat away at the brightness in front of them.
It's coming in so fast that I have time to take loads of shots from directly underneath the rain clouds - before it starts actually raining. When it does though - my god, it comes down quickly. Monsoon rain, even though it isn't the season.
The light changes to a strange yellow colour and instantly the world turns wet. We run for cover but are still pretty damp. We sit it out for a while and watch the storm slowly move across the sky - it really was amazing. Very beautiful, but pretty freaky as well. If you lit a film set in with this strange light it would look really fake. And somehow the sky being cut in half by the storm was a mix of threatening and unreal at the same time...
If this is a glimpse of what monsoon is going to be like - well it's going to be beautiful, but my god it's going to be wet!
