City tour , Staten Island , Rockerfellar
Some of the dates and sequence of this is out , but that's normal for me .What is it about New York that makes me feel more at home here than i do in my own hometown ?? The people are mostly extroverts , quick witted , but also reticent and give the impression of not 'giving a hoot' about anyone or anything .I can't explain it
Carrying on from the previous entry i chatted with a Brit Scottish couple as i drank my coffee and they told me about a bus hop on drop off city tour they were on for only $49 . I just could not walk anymore and since they said the pickup point was just along Bleecker st i made my way there having satisfied my coffee and rest room urges .There was a blue bus just pulling away full , having refused two tourists getting on , and asked them to wait for the next bus which would be 5 mins . I mistook them for Americans , which is a dodgy thing to do to Canadians , anyway these two took it in good part and recommended this bus tour and whats more they also said that they had sore feet !
The bus arrived and the guide took me on , explaining that he would drop me off at the ticket office (which was by wall st).It was becoming colder , especially on the top deck of the open air bus .They gave me a 3 day tour ticket for $49 i feel this is a good deal , it includes uptown/downtown/brooklyn and i think , a night tour also , and also a river cruise of about 60 mins .
We saw wall st , that silly bull , woolworth building but what i wanted most was the free staten island ferry trip , have never done that before . There were lots of police around some with dogs but they are just observers and not obstrusive in any way .
The Staten Island ferry is free and leaves every 30 mins , at least half of the passengers are tourists and i was sitting next to some young French women , it takes about 10-15 mins to get to the island , passing the Statue of Liberty en route , it was hazy and foggy , its not warm
and many are wearing coats and overcoats and headware , it's MAY , nearly summer , i feel i am a jinx after my experineces in Costa del Sol last feb . It reminds me of when our queen visited Australia years ago , she went to Alice Springs and when she got there it started raining , for the first time in two years ! .
The ferry was good , we had to disembark to allow the waiting passengers to embark , and then most of us got back on the ferry , actually this was a different ferry and i quickly found they had a little cafe and without really thinking i found myself queuing to be served , i got coffee and a doughnut , but discarded the coffee when only half drunk , i have taken on most of my addictions and won . I neither drink nor smoke and donna do drugs . When many TB readers have got back up from off the floor (from what i have read of TB boozy meetups anyway)
I must point out that this entire trip flight/apartment/costs will cost me LESS than thier yearly booze /fags budget . I prefer things this way , although i did have my moments , mostly regretted , when i lived in Amsterdam when i was 20 something ..
The Staten ferry pases close to Ellis island/Liberty and its a very good phot oportunity , it was hazy today
