Near Brooklyn Bridge

New York has changed  a little since i was last here . I do  love the place , but i am little out of sorts or just plain grumpy .My usual internet cafe  has dissapeared and last night i walked miles and miles  around square Times and 5th ave looking for another .It was rainy at times .

I found one just off 5th avenue run in the basement of a shop , but kept getting pop-ups telling me there was a trojan probing my passwords , when i took the option  to download some security protection  it asked me to pay for it , no chance .So i downloaded Adaware(free)  and then i was asked for the supervisor  password for the cafe , i got up and left .

I have never seen so many people using mobile phones as there are here , they just march down the avenues talking quite loudly , and about half of those who are nt using phones have mp3 players going .

Some of the people here are a bit disturbed  and talking and muttering to themselves .

I am almost at that point myself  ;-) i eventually  found an Internet cafe  at 277 Bleeker st , near 7th avenue .The Chinese lady is up to date with the computers  but just cant speak english and also talks like she has a mouthful of bricks , two french people have just paid and left and i could see they couldnt understand her saying 'miyyumm free  gollarrrs' , what she means is minimum 3 dollar charge for internet use (no matter how long you have used it).My pc is fast  and has a digi card slot , but there are no lights on in the cafe and no bathroom.Other users come in and i can see that they are confused .

Last evening i was  at Square Times  which is very busy in the evening , when all the lights are on , there are many tourists  and they all take pics of the neon lights and themselves ; its nice but it's gross , people doing what everyone does .

Lots of Nyc police are around , they never fail to impress me ; always polite and courteous if i need to speak to them , they appear always to be prepared for trouble and ready for peace , although  dressed almost like para militaries with guns  and batons they never come across  as threatening

My feet do ache , i must have walked at least 10 miles yesterday , and about 4 this morning already , i need to use a rest room and also need more coffee , but they dont have it in this cyber cafe and my feet are taking on  a mind of thier own and telling me they wont move , they re throbbing .I have a subway pass , but a lot of places i have been are between stations and there is always lots of walking here anyway .

The pass  cost $25 per week for unlimited  subway use .

At least i have got my internet fix , i think she charges  8 dollars per hour , its all a bit strange here , there is a 3 foot  yellow  wooden model of a biplane hanging from the ceiling , the lady was doing  tai chi  a bit earlier and then playing on an electric organ .

She is having a sometimes urgent conversation with an old chinese guy in what sounds like cantonese chinese  and so far it has gone on besides the breaks i mentioned , for an hour and a half. My feet say 'tolerate' , my head says 'why dont they pXXX off' , my feet will not allow me to  .

Usually  strong at customer service ; they are winding me up . I must do something , usually mild tempered  and non-violent  , i am becoming edgy .

I did do something and moved a few doors away and got a nice brie and salad falafel (or something) and coffee and rest room .New York is a vegetarians dreamplace  and you can get veggie pizzas everywhere in almost every street , you can get a pizza slice and coffee  for about $7.

Yesterday i used a deli near my apartment  and paid $35 dollars for very little , the price tags  were so small i could nt read them without glasses and i paid $6  for a small tray of blueberries (double/triple uk price) and $3.50 for some lowfat cheese slices which is FOUR times the Uk price for the same brand , slightly different package . To make it worse the deli didnt have any decent instant coffee  and i found an Brit deli  near broadway which had nescafe 100mg , i though the price was $3.95 but it turned out to be $13.95 ,  again TRIPLE uk prices , i must wear my reading glasses in such places , but wont go to those places again anyway .
