Peaceful Kauai
What a pretty sight out of the plane window. I remember the woman
who was sitting in front of me saying, "This is as green as Ireland",
I have never been to Ireland, but I have heard it referred to as the Emerald
Isle, so I can only imagine how green it must be. Well, Kauai is beautiful and
green, and we stayed in a guesthouse in the middle of a private rainforest, so
got the chance to immerse ourselves in the lush green of this beautiful little
island.
I was more in the mood to do stuff here, but there is not a lot to do. We took
a drive from one end of the island to the other one day, stoped at Waimea
canyon, Hawaii's own little version of the Grand Canyon. It may be smaller, however
it is every bit as beautiful. We also took a little boat trip up the Wailua
River to a lava rock grotto covered with tropical ferns.
As our helicopter ride on Hawaii was cut short, we decided to do one here. It was quite a bit of fun with the pilot playing a continuous track of Elvis songs through our headsets and giving a running commentary on all the sites of every Elvis scene ever filmed on Kauai. Elvis lives!
We visited a macadamia farm, but found out all the macadamias in Hawaii were imported from Australia. Good old Aussies, always sharing the best they have.
Speaking of Aussies sharing, I hope you enjoy the photos I do have of Kauai.
