New Year's Celebration
December 31, 2006
We both had New Year's Eve free so we headed south to find some snow. The higher the better we thought so it was the 3 Valleys in France - Corchevel,Meribel and Val Thorens which is the highest ski resort in Europe at 2300 meters
The closer we got to the mountains, the more concerned we were at how green the landscape still was or actually how brown the mountains were.
The first couple of days most of the piste were closed due to lack of snow. And skiing over to the other valleys was out of the question. At one point when I was skiing to a lift, I stopped literally in my tracks...no snow, just gravel.
New Year's Eve...standing in the snow watching the fireworks when suddenly...yes, snowflakes falling !!! And it kept falling the whole next day.
Afterwards, fresh snow and sunshine. And we were able to lay down fresh tracks over to the other valleys. What better way to start your day as well as a new year.
