Sunburn and Swimming...

I have absolutely no idea when we went to Tunisia, my memory of it has grown quite hazy (given that I was very young).

What I do remember is fragmented - finding rocks that looked like quartz - trees, their bases encased in enormous ceramic pots with vivid colourful designs on them, their trunks tied in complex knots - sand, dusting the smooth paving stones, in the gardens, at the bottom of the pool...everywhere - learning how to swim from someone I befriended in the hotel pool...doggy paddle - getting a gigantic heat blister on my left shoulder that my dad had to burst with a hot pin, then spending the rest of the time in a wet t-shirt to avoid any more damage...for years afterwards that shoulder would never tan - going to a market and gripping onto my parents hands really tight because even at the young age, I didn't like the way the men were looking at me with my blonde hair (bleached even lighter by the sun) - my favourite summer dress, every colour of the rainbow - freckles that stayed across my nose for a year...

Funny the things you remember as a child...but that's it, that's all I have left of my stay there...
