I have always wanted to go to the Silk Road and to see the Mogao Grottos at Dunhuang in particular. So as circumstances allowed me to meet up with travbuddies Phil and Julia on the Silk Road, I decided to take the opportunity to travel again!

arrive in Beijing

The plane I took to China, taken in SFO
Yeah, I am in China again! The flight was 2 hour late (because it was late arriving in San Francisco, so we couldn't leave without an airplane!)

I slept most of the way, and watched the movie Enchanted on the airplane. It was a rather cute movie, and we might even have to rent it again when I get home to watch it on a bigger screen. The 747 taxied for a LONG time to some far corner of the airport. From the window, I could see a building saying "maintenance". No terminals were in sight. We got off the airplane, and boarded buses which took another LONG time to the gate where we could go through immigrations. That part was a breeze, and since I did not check any luggage, I was able to get out in no time after that. The airport is certainly huge. I don't know what the story is with having to take buses from the tarmac, but the facility was clean and modern. I can't remember doing that the last time (only 7 months ago), but I do remember when we left Beijing to board our flight to Lhasa last year, we had to take the buses.

Now safely in Beijing, I drank some yummy yogurt my brother gave me and will now get a rest because this is a short stop over only. Tomorrow it will be unfamiliar territory.
