Praia da Itapua

hey all

short entry cos it's late and i have a date with some sea turtles on an island tomorrow,'s what we did the past couple of days.

went to a lovely beach called was a little dirty, but not very touristy which was nice.  it was mostly us and Brazilian tourists, so that was a nice change to the North American/European company we tend to have.  we took the local transit that ended up taking us thru a favela.  holy humbling experience.  public transportation is by far the best way to see a city.

today, sarah and i managed to find our professor and his wife!  they were in another part of the city, and we couldn't locate them for a while.  Gerardo, our prof, emailed us to say that he was robbed!  thru a series of distractions, someone stole his gold chain from his neck.

thankfully, when we go out, we wear nothing of value, and infact, we wear cheap brazilian jewelry to blend in somewhat.  so... we grabbed and ice cream with them, and here comes the food of the day:  guava icecream.  think...blended pink goodness, fat free (so i would like to think), sorbet...soo incredibly cooling and delicious on a hot day like today, and everyday.

we went, in the evening, to a capoeira show by the son of the founder of Capoeira Regional, Mestre Bimba...and i cannot find the words to express how amazing it was to see this performance.  the moves, the music, the history was just overwhelming...and we were all participating at the end dancing with them all.  i can only find one picture that turned out, but just use your imagination.  i have videos, which are better...  but you'll have to wait for them untiil i get back.

pictures to come tomorrow...late now.

love you all
