so my time here in Salvador is winding down, and as it does, i must pause for a moment to explain why this city has grown so much on me.
the majority of you will know that i love music. the best way that i can find to describe to you what it is like is this: it is like being in the Vancouver International Jazz Festival, everyday, all day long (sorry to those reading who aren't from vancouver..just think great music festival!). the work-hard, play-hard attitude towards life is contagious. everyone is dancing in the city at nite, and there is music everywhere i walk. from the percussion band marching down a side street, to a blind man tapping his walking stick and coins as he sings a song, to a samba singer in the city square, to a plaza dedicated to Reggae music...the city is alive with music. it's no wonder that Salvador's celebration of Carnaval attracts some 7 MILLION people during the week long festival in the space of approximately two city blocks!!! the people here practice day and nite for this festival. i love it.
the weather has started to cool here, but is definitely still warm, because we are sweating in our beds at nite. we have spent the majority of our days searching out other beaches in the city, and neighbouring cities. we took a trip to an island called Ilha da Itaparica where we ventured off to a small fishing village at the southern tip of the island called Cacha Pregos.
i have booked my flight to Sao Paulo, and will be heading there next Wednesday. until then, here's to celebrating this beautiful city. only two more nites!
