The Next Day in Naw'lins

New Orleans Travel Blog | Travelogue | Travel Journal

My first trip to New Orleans... and JazzFest as well. It was such an adventure and an awesome time with friends.

The Next Day in Naw'lins

Live music all around the city.

After fully resting up, we started the day bright and early.  We decided to have breakfast at Cafe Du Monde... the oldest coffee stand in N.O.  They only serve coffee and beignets (which is French Donuts), and for around $4 you can get a small coffee and a place of 3 beignets.  Inside, it still has the 1950's atmosphere feel to it, and it was packed with people at every table!

After getting our sugar and caffeine fix, we set off to explore the rest of the French Quarter.  Near the riverwalk there were street music performers to entertain and we were able to see from a distance the Cathedral of St. Louis.  We later went inside and took in all the beautiful artwork and the serene setting amist all the "craziness" all around it.  It was interesting to note that in 1987, the Pope was there to provide Mass to the Catholics there.

A look over the water...

Walking along the streets of N.O., I was amazed at all the beautiful architecture!  I loved looking at all the old buildings, with the balconys with the rod-iron work.  There is also statues in honor of all the musical legends that helped in development of the jazz/blues music in N.O... I loved that this town was so ecentric and full of life, music, and art.

Finally, our day was complete when Sarah and TJ got their fortunes read at "The Bottom of the Cup Tearoom".  I, on the otherhand, slipped $1 into a mechanical fortune teller and got a printed card with my "fortune".  It reminded me of when Tom Hanks made his wish to the same kind of fortune teller in the movie "Big".

Yummy beignets and coffee
When visiting New Orleans, Cafe du Monde is a must for coffee and beignets. For around $4, you can get a small coffee (with chicory), either black or "cafe au lait", and a plate of 3 beignets (French Donuts). This is the oldest coffee stand still in New Orleans and is open 24 hours a day. It's pretty crowded most days but definitely worth the wait.
