The training ride today is what we call the South MoPac Loop.  It starts near the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in South Austin, heads south on Loop 1 to FM 1826, and then loops back around 1826 back to Loop 1 and the Wildflower Center.  Each loop is about 9 miles, so we usually do at least two or three loops, depending on the day and the weather.  For this training ride, we were also doing a few loops at the Veloway, a 3.5 mile biking loop near the Wildflower Center, especially for the children who are training to do the Hill Country Ride.  That is where I was assigned ride leader duties for the day.

My ride did not go so well.  About a mile into the first loop, I had a flat tire.  Turns out I had the wrong size tube, had left my pump in my friends car the day before (the day I did the Rosedale Ride), and the CO2 cartridge I had for filling the tube was empty!  Some ride leader I was that day!  Ha ha!  All of that and it began to rain.

  I ended up only doing 4 miles before I had to head over to our Team Brunch that morning.

Team Mates Scott and Paul hosted our entire team at their home near the Wildflower Center that morning for a team brunch.  They went all out and had mimosas (champagne and orange juice) and poinsettas (champagne and cranberry juice) for drinks.  We had croissants, muffins, fresh fruit, two different egg casseroles and many other good things to eat.  It was a great time for new members of our team to get to know each other a little better.
