Cebu - after 423 years ...
I love Cebu, the island being one of the best destinations in the Indian Ocean-Asia region.
Since we arrived on a Sunday, we decided to attend the mass in the Shrine and we were very surprised to see soooo many people in the area.
KAPLAG celebration - the Cebuano term for 'finding' - marking the feast of the Sto. Nino (child Christ) tto commemorate the discovery of the image in a nipa hut in Cebu on April 28, 1565. The image, is believed to have been a gift from Ferdinand Magellan to Queen Lisabeta, wife of Rajah Humabon after her baptism where she was named Queen Juana.
end of mass - bye Sto. Nino
There was then the procession of the image of the blessed Nino from San Nicholas Church to the Basilica. People were coming from different directions just to be near the image.
Viva Senior Sto. Nino! Viva Senior Sto. Nino!
Amazing! I was born and raised as a Catholic but sights like these were not usual from our own place. No wonder, Cebu is the cradle of Christianity in the Philippines. The devotion of the Cebuanos is awe-inspiring.
