UNLV Festival of Communities
April 26, 2008
After having a refreshing fresh coconut at the Thai students food booth I made my way over to Bistro Di Vino's booth for some Northern Italian specialties!
Most people want to be as far away from their place of employment as possible on the weekend but as far as I'm concerned going to the UNLV Festival of communities on Saturday was like taking a trip to India, Africa, most of Europe, and Asia all within a few hours!! This was the first event of this kind at UNLV. The festival brought together the traditional costumes/customs, dance, music, art and food of the world...quite a daunting venture but it came together beautifully! I was amazed with the quality and variety of traditional ethnic foods that were made by the various student groups and local restaurants. Performing live were Native American dancers, a Caribbean steel drum band, traditional arabic music and belly dancer, an East Indian dancer and an Argentinian Gaucho just to name a few! I'll be adding a few pics shortly. The University plans on making this an annual event every April so I'll be making it a point to attend again next year!
