The Cursed Tomb of Jonathan Buck
April 8, 2008
So I have time on my hands theese days and I went for a drive to Bucksport to see the The Witches Boot. Its not very far from where I live so I though hey why not I like wierd stuff like this anyway. I pulled into the little parking area and headedup the ramp to check it out. Unfortunatley one of the plaques has been knocked over my quess is due to all the snowfall this winter but the monument itself isnt going anywhere and the stain isnt either. A stain in the form of a boot is the curse kinda silly untill you hear the story. Way back when supposedly Jonathan Buck sentenced an innocent woman to death and when he did she cursed him (and some girls wonder why people think they are vindictive) Just kidding! Anyway the curse was she proclaimed she was innocent and that he knew it and she would be back to dance on his grave.
Now this isnt his grave its just a monument I quess the grave is in another part of the cemetary I dont know its only what Ive heard and you cant enter the cemetary to check it out. To add to the strangeness of it a heart shaped stain had formed on the monument as well. Now the stain has had many attempts at it being removed and it just keeps coming back so maybee it is a real curse who knows. Its fun to go look at if your in the area. Go check out some more nearby attractions though or youll probably be dissapointed. Some things near by Steven kings House is in Bangor and he filmed the movie Thinner out of a hotel in Camden called Beloins. Fort Knox and the Penobscott Bay Observatory is right over the new bridge. Fort Point State Park is down the road a ways as is Perry's Nut House wich has a real Mummy from Egypt on display. There is alot to do in the local area so go check it out have fun but please respect the fact that it is a cemetary.
The Witches Boot
The Witches Boot in Bucksport is a sight to see if your into attractions of the beaten path. The story goes the tows founder Colonel Jonathan Buck sentenced an inncocent women to death and she cursed him to the affect of Ill be back to dance on your grave. The town who is proud of thier founder built a monument in honor of him. Sometime after the monument was erected a stain in the form of a boot appeared and many attempts to remove it have failed. The story has been told for quite a long time so the details are sketchy wich adds to the mystery of it all. Its just one of those odditys people from all over have come to see it so the town added a parking area and a wheel chiar ramp. You cant go into the cemetary but right there by the fence is a plaque and right beside that the monument wich has also developed a heart shaped stain. OOooo spooky. What does it mean who knows but its fun to look at anyway and take a few pictures.
