Jamie & Laurie at Verlaine
(still a work in progress)
Okay am finally getting a chance to start writing. Let's start at the beginning of how all this came about, here goes.
Once upon a time in a land far, far away, there was a boy named Jeff who had just come back from the famous Amsterdam Meetup. He had such a good time that he thought to himself "ha, why don't we have a meetup here in good ole New York City. Yes, what a good idea".
Lol, seriously folks that's what really happend; and I digress, he then started a thread on the forum and immediately started getting some positive feedback. I think I posted something really witty like "I'm already here, count me in". Yea, I really have a way with words don't I.
After the great debate on setting a date and place, I chimed in again with another witty response "Jeff count me in, good locale!" (I know pathetic). Anyway, after some back and forth, I sent Jeff a PM and offered him my services, I mean assistance. We started debating on whether we should have the official meetup as a dinner at a restaurant, go to a bar afterwards, etc. Then in came the lovely Natasha. (I bow to you my queen). We decided to meet for dinner at the Brown Cafe to discuss possible venues, etc. Well thank god for Natasha, she came in and took the reigns, because Jeff and I were basically running around like chickens without heads. Natasha basically set us straight and laid down the groundwork. We made some more phone calls, exchanged PM's and Natasha came up with The Delancey.
Gloria & Natasha
I thought, cool, number 1 it was a few minutes from my apartment and number 2, the place was always packed when I passed by it on my way home from work. Natasha, Jeff, Mikey (mikeylove) and I decided to meet up again for brunch at the Sunburnt Cow to go over more details, right! Let's just say several bloody marys and mimosas later, with some of the mimosas on my jeans (thank you Mikey), we really didn't discuss the meetup. After several hours, we did, however, stumble our way out of the Sunburnt Cow down to Delancey to check out the venue. We all agreed this was the place and as they say history was made.
I really want to say to Natasha and Jeff, thank you! Our hats off to you, because none of this would have been possible without you two.
Gloria, Natasha, Jeff & I
I love you both. We started out together trying to just coordinate this, and have ended up life-long friends. Okay enough for the mushy part, now down to the partying!
As always, I was delayed at work, and was rushing to get out. I ran out of there like a bat out of hell, you could only see my dust. I had to get home, walk the dog, feed the dog, take a quick shower, get dressed and meet the group at Verlaine for tapas at 7:00 pm. Thank god the restaurant was within walking distance from my apartment. I was amazed I arrived right in the nick of time. As I was standing there saying goodbye to my cousin (she walked with me on her way to meet her friends), she looked over to the front of the restaurant and saw a guy standing there and she whispered to me I think that guy may be with your group.
Me and two handsome men, Josh & Craig
She was right, at that moment he walked up to me and asked if I was there to meet Natahsa. I said yes, I'm Debra. He introduced himself, it was Craig (my favorite Aussie) who came all the way from down under. We entered the the restaurant, walked towards the back and there was Natasha, Jeff, Jamie & Lori. A little while after, in walked Matt demanding to be fed (the brat), Gloria, and last but not least Josh, who drove here all the way down from Northern Pennsylvania (what a trouper). We immediately all started talking at once, actually more like yelling over all the noise and the music. I had to use sign language a few times just to communicate with Matt who was at the other end of the table from me (still demanding to be fed).
I don't think Gloria like the drink she just tasted
Natasha, Jeff Matt, and I had never met any of these people before, and here we were chatting away like we were old friends. I must say Josh is the real adventurous type. He decided to try out several different, "strange", drinks just for the hell of it (as long as they were not "girly drinks" his words not mine). Some were hits but there was one which was a total miss, which he then tried to pawn off to Natasha, but instead Gloria had made the unfortunate mistake of tasting it. Jeff decided to take a picture at that moment (see below), let's just say a picture says 1000 words.
