one of the things i have to admit to enjoying about hostels, and i'm sure some of the ladies out there will understand this, is how the hot boys like to walk around shirtless. :0) like the tall hot german dude who walked into the bathroom this morning in his sleep shorts and nothing else. good morning!

so the plan today was to leave porto and spend 2 nights in coimbra, but i decided to instead just make a daytrip to coimbra.  glad i did because as it turns out that while coimbra is indeed quaint, there's not that much to do there.  so i talked carra into day tripping with me and we took the super cheap train there, which yes did mean 2.5 hours on the train as opposed to 1, but hey we're budget backpackers!  but by the time we got there we only ended up spending a couple hours before we had to turn around and catch the train back so carra could make her flight to london.

but it all worked out well because like mentioned, there wasn't too much to do.  definitely a nice little town with cobblestone streets and twisty windy roads to get lost in, as well as many little shopping areas, and it turned out to be a great little day trip.  and we felt accomplished at getting out and doing something!

we were disappointed though when we returned home to the hostel and found out we missed obama's inauguration speech!  a lot of us were under the assumption that it would be later in the day, and we were wrong!  damn!  you tube it is.  watched the ending of the ceremonies with some other folks in the hostel though, and it was quite a great atmosphere!  it's such a different experience being here this time, because on previous trips i'd experienced some.

.. slight hostility towards my country just because a lot of folks (myself included) were not fans of the current president.  but this time around, everywhere i go it's 'oh you're american! congrats on your new president!' 'i'm happy for you!' etc... lol it was great.

had dinner with the cute german and austrian with the really great accents and then called it a day, falling asleep to the sounds of pouring rain outside.  wasn't sure what i was going to do tomorrow; decided to just see where the day would take me, provided it didn't start hailing again.  oh yes, hail!  love it!  i really, really do... lol love the cold weather!
