as it turns out my 3 porto roommates and i are all going to lisbon on the same day, on the same train, and staying at the same hostel - totally unplanned but really cool.  it turns out we lost the two girls, but vinisius (who was from brazil naturally, because my hostel stay wouldn’t be complete w/out a brazilian roommate!) and i headed down to lisbon together.

well if i thought my last hostel was awesome, this hostel was even awesome-er, bean bags included!  the best 2 hostels i've stayed during this trip were in portugal; loving this country so far.  oh, and i also love how the hostel's furniture mainly comes from ikea. :0)

after checking in vinisius and i set out into lisbon, had lunch, and then caught a bus up into the amalfa district to see the castle and the view - which was great.

and as the sun was setting we made our way back down the hill for some R&R before heading out to an absolutely delicious dinner and a fado show.  my roommate janice, who was from scotland (LOVED her accent), joined us and it was so. much. fun.  it was in this teeny tiny super hard to find locally owned place where the owner was also the wait staff, and eventually she and other members of the kitchen staff would come out and sing fado as well.  and there was dancing!  i mean the place was so small, the size of maybe a normal living room and you're sitting elbow to elbow with people you don't know, but it didn't matter!  excellent, and i mean excellent food - best cod fish i've ever had, and great atmosphere.  it was such a cool little place... loved it!  and i'm loving lisbon so far and wondering if in fact portugal may just be inching its' way above spain...
