heading to the bioparc...
totally blew my budget today and i totally dont care!!!

so the whole reason valencia ended up on my itinerary was because of this awesome zoo i read about online called the bioparc.  it sounded really cool and i had to go so i added it in!  so then last night when we started talking about going to the football game today i got kinda bummed because i was thinking man i might have to miss the zoo depending on opening hours etc...  but it turns out the football game wasnt until 10pm (because really i dont think anything is being done at 10am in spain!) so i got to go to the bioparc and it was AMAZING.  the way they have it set up you feel like youre in there with the animals-and sometimes you were!  they had a bird area that you could walk into and the birds roamed around and flew freely!  and the same thing with the lemurs!  when i walked up to the gateway there was an employee there who told me the rules about entering the lemur pen-no food, close one door before opening the next beucase theyre clever and might escape since theyre roaming freely.
zebras!
so i said okay, but they wont jump on you will they?  and he goes i dont know, maybe!  but dont worry becuase theyre not dangerous!!!  okay...

so in i go into the pen, making sure no lemurs escape as i open the door of course, and i look up and there are lemurs right in the tree in front of me!!  they were all bunched up and sleeping together-so cute.  as i took pictures one barely cracked its eye open, didnt budge an inch, before closing it and going back to sleep.  rounding the corner there were two more of a different species in another tree climbing around eating the leaves, paying me no mind whatsoever.  went around another corner and there were a ton of them!  they little grey ones with black and white tails were hopping all around and playing together.
hakuna matata...
i stood in the pathway to take a photo of one and i felt something brushing against my leg-i look down and its a lemur walking by!!  i walked the rest of the pathway through the area and you reach this one point where it narrows and theres a tree spread out above you and the lemurs are just jumping from branch to branch above you back and forth from one side of the path to the other!  theyre soooo quick!  and the cute staff member laughed at me as i ducked and covered my head with my map!  it was a really awesome expereince.  had they had penguins there it wouldve been complete.  but its okay because i saw penguins the day before at the arts and sciences museum so im good!  plus they had so many different animals - hyenas, zebras, warthogs (hakuna matata style warthogs!), gorillas - oh!  speaking of gorillas they have to be some of the most amazing creatures to watch - feces eating aside that is.
this tiny little fence was all that separated us from the animals!
i kid you not!  a group of us watched as one walked by eating his own poo...  i swear!

but like i said, that aside, they were super interesting to watch beucase they are sooo human like.  one came over and sat in the corner near the glass - one of the few places where they have glass separating you from the animals, and he just sat there and crossed his arms.  he would pick at the hair on his arms and groom himself, just relaxing, looking around.  then the poo eating gorilla comes over and joins him and they just sit there together, hanging out.  so a guy goes over and sits at the glass next to them and starts making faces at the poo eating one so his girlfriend can take a picture, and at one point he stuck his tongue at the ape and no joke, the ape did it back!  we all burst into hysterics.
hyenas...
and after that everytime someone would go over to take a picture with him, at some point while they were sitting there posing he would end up sticking his tongue out at them!  its like he was posing for the pictures too!  i couldnt believe it!  i sat and watched the gorillas for a good half hour or so.  it was just incredible.  no wonder people buy into the whole evolving from apes theories...

that night miriam and i decided to be the fancy cooks in the kitchen; we still made spaghetti, but it was with fancy sauce!  it had zucchini, olives (from the free food shelf in the kitchen-woohoo!), red bell peppers, and chorizo--> totally miriams call, and a great one at that.  it was really good!

the rest of the days budget was blown on the valencia/villareal football game that night - pure awesome-ness.
i had really wanted to go to a game in madrid but when tickets were 90 euro i had to scrap that idea.  then when we heard this one was only 20 euro we were all over it.  unfortuantely the valencia team itself-not so good!  at least the offense wasnt.  i dont know if its called offense in soccer, but i know we spent most of the time on the other end of the field defending!  no matter though-the spaniards are passionate about their sport either way!

the stadium was about 90% valencia fans and man were they loud.  everytime valencia scored there was an uproar and i swear the stadium shook!  obsenities were yelled, feet were stomped, and fingers were given to the other team and their fans - general chaos.
this rhino walked one circular path over and over... and over for like the 10 minutes i was watching him. and continued to do so when i left... it was weird
it was great!  but sadly the game ended in a tie.  now that blows in my opinion!  its like all that effort, all that running, and theres no winner??  baloney!  ah well.  we still had a great time.  and after louie, miriam, and i went out to a couple pubs for drinks and celebrated like we had won anyhow!  or maybe we were drowning the sorrows of our loss??  whatever you wanna call it!

bonus - while out we met an aussie who looked like (and danced like) mr. bean aka rowan atkinson.  he was a super nice guy, not nearly as odd as mr. bean, but man he sure did look like him!  and this was after we met antony, the welsh dr. phil, back at our hostel.  i kid you not - dead ringer for dr.
phil.  and once we told him this he told us to give him our problems and he would dish out advice-and it turned out to be pretty good advice to our made up issues!

such a magnificent day... a great zoo, some great sports, good food, and maybe one too many agua de valencias!  hint - it doesnt really have any water in it!  except for maybe the ice cubes...
